What is the Most Frequently Mentioned Word in the Holy Qur'an?

By AbdulDa'em Al-Kaheel

This question was posed to my by one of the brothers. It would please me that the readers have the opportunity to see the answer because of its importance. Although the question is simple, it opens our eyes to a unique miracle which is exclusive to The Holy Qur'an.

How does the mind ensure that the Qur'an has been safe from alteration after the elapse of fourteen centuries, and how is it possible to ensure that not even one letter has been changed? Naturally, being a believer, I recall what Allah, Most High, said:

{Verily, We, it is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Qur'an) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption).} 15:9

Nevertheless, what is the way to obtain unshakable faith?

Faith does not appear in a day and a night, rather it requires years to build. The believer continues to increase in faith with each sign and evidence he witnesses, until the day he dies. Here is only one proof which shows that the Qur'an is the Book of Allah; there is a characteristic which you will find in no book except in one Book. This characteristic is that the most frequently mentioned word in that Book is the Name of its Author. If we were to skim through the books of the world, which probably add up to billions, you would most likely not find a single book in which the name of the author is mentioned anywhere other than on the front cover, in the introduction and at the end of the book, namely three or four times. On the other hand, we have the Qur'an, which was sent down by Allah, Most High. In the Qur'an, the name of the Author (i.e. Allah) is mentioned many, many times, exactly 2699 times. Notice that Allah had chose to mention His Name in the Qur'an specifically 2699 times because this is an odd number, which points to the Oneness of Allah, and a prime number[1] which cannot be divided by any number other than itself and the number "1", simply because Allah is One!

Another amazing discovery is that the most frequently mentioned number in the Qur'an is the number "1". Did this happen by coincidence? If some slight alterations were made to the Qur'an, these delicate calculations would not render such results. This is only a minute example in order to strengthen the faith, as mentioned by Allah, Most High:

{...Thus (it is sent down in parts), that We may strengthen your heart thereby. And We have revealed it to you gradually, in stages.} 25:32
