The Qur'an and Modern Science
On the 9th of November, 1976, an unusual lecture was given at the French Academy of Medicine. Its title was “Physiological and Embryological data in the Qur’an”. I presented the study based on the existence of certain statements concerning physiology and reproduction in the Qur’an. My reason for presenting this lecture was because it is impossible to explain how a text produced in the seventh century could have contained ideas that have only been discovered in modern times.  ///    Download(Pdf)

Family in Islam

Since family is the basic unit of society, Islam lays great emphasis on the family system and its values. The basis of family is marriage. Islam prescribes rules to regulate family life so that both the spouses can live in tranquility, security and love. Marriage in Islam has aspects of `ibadah (worship) of Allah (God) in the sense that it is in accordance with His commandments that a husband and wife should love and help each other and rear their children to become true servants of Allah (God). ///  Download(Pdf) (691 KB)

The TWO EIDS and their Significance

The Arabic word “Eid” refers to something habitual, that returns and is repeated, thus stands literally for a recurrent event. It also implies a place often visited by people, and the period of time in which a particular act is regularly performed. Likewise, each gathering that assembles regularly comes under the category, ‘Eid’. Eids or festivals are symbols to be found in every nation, including those that are based on revealed scriptures and those that are idolatrous, as well as others, because celebrating festivals is something that is an instinctive part of human nature. All people like to have special occasions to celebrate, where they can come together and express their joy and happiness. ///  Download(Pdf) (452 KB)

A Social Vision

The religion of Islam is a comprehensive system of life, completed by Allah through the medium of sending the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to all mankind. The philosophy that underlines the legislation of Islam is that of perfect balance between individual and collective responsibility. In other words, there are individual duties and there are societal duties, and the two go hand in hand. Humans are social beings by nature, and as such must be integrated into societies. For this reason, scholars of old have said that rectification of the world lies in two important elements: a system that governs society as a whole, and components of the same system that result in individual peace. ///    Download(Pdf) (335 KB)

Scientific Evidences in the Quran
This information given in the Qur’an is in full agreement with the findings of contemporary science. The conclusion that astrophysics has reached today is that the entire universe, together with the dimensions of matter and time, came into existence as a result of a great explosion that occurred in no time. This event, known as “The Big Bang” produced the entire universe about 15 billion years ago, creating it from nothingness as the result of the explosion of a single point. Modern scientific circles are in agreement that the Big Bang is the only rational and provable explanation of the beginning of the universe and of how the universe came into being. ///  Download(Pdf) (1.75 MB)
